George Kontrafouris- Piano Quartet live

The new quartet by George Kontrafouris on new compositions of his own as well as of other Quartet members. This new composition will be recorded in February, entitled The Raft. The leading Greek jazz pianist, internationally renowned and of a rich discography, George Kontrafouris, is performing live along with Christos Balaouras (guitar), Alexis Delis (bass) and John Papadoulis (drums) at Linto on Friday, January 29 2016 at 22:00.
 
George Kontrafouris was born in Athens in 1967. He studied classical piano at the National Conservatory. At age 16, he become interested in jazz and took up jazz improvisation with Markos Alexiou. He has also had lessons with Jim Beard and Jarmo Savolainen. He was awarded the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Jazz Performance from the Sibelius Academy in Finland. 
 
He has worked as a pianist and an organist with very important and great musicians such as Mark Johnson, Arild Andersen, Marcus Stockhausen, Louisiana Red, Keith Copeland, Andy Sheppard, Ralph Peterson Jr., Bob Brozman, Carla Cook, Alvester Garnett, Stepko Gut, Olivier Gatto, David Liebman, Houston Pearson, Eric Alexander, David Sills, Lou Donaldson, Sam Newsome, Jamie Hadad, Deborah Davies, Benny Golson, Tim Hagans, Bob Shepard, Carmen Lundy, Sheila Jordan, Jukkis Uotila, Wade Mikkola, Takis Paterelis, Stratos Vougas, Dimos Dimitriadis, Lydia Fylipovic, T. Spasov and A. Pacatius.
 
He teaches jazz piano and organ at the Ionian University and in Athenaeum Conservatory in Greece and at the Sibelius Academy in Finland. He has so far presented seminars in various schools in Greece, Ireland, Indonesia and Estonia. Also, he is the artistic director in the Tinos Jazz Festival.
