A vertical tasting of Giannakochori Kir Yannis
“A Farewell" to his favorite wine of the estate

Giannakochori got its name from the village Giannakochori of Naoussa region where Yannis Boutaris bought in 1968 an area of 500 acres. The first Xinomavro plantings there in the early 1970s marked the revival of the vineyard in the area. Two decades later, this place gave its name to a blend very pioneering compared to the times.

The first bottles went on the market in 1995 as Boutaris Estate in Giannakochori and contained a wine of 70% Xinomavro and 30% Merlot. The bold for the times Yannis Boutaris, tried to soften the xinomavro with an international variety and give the wine a new approach. Stelios Boutaris will be bringing along bottles of the first crops, even the last vintage, analyzing the evolution of the wine over time and the new plans of the estate.
