Azafrán The Azafrán is a group created in Crete in the spring of 2015, although the three members had a common course since 2011 with Hastallí band. The band meets due to the need for expression and creation through musical idioms of the Mediterranean and the East.
The meeting takes place in the Musical Workshop Labyrinth (Houdetsi, Crete) where internationally recognized teachers teach. The musical atmosphere invites us to travel to distant and ancient melodies, to discover our roots. The music band members focus on the study of musical idioms of makam (Ottoman and Arab music system, tropical music) and the musical expressions of the eastern Mediterranean, the music of the Sufis, Turkey, Asia Minor, traditional Armenia, Bulgaria, Kurdistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Afghanistan , India, Tunisia...
In July 2015 the band recorded its first album and through three concerts in Chania, Rethymnon and Heraklion it has had its first record presentation, which will be ready by the end of the year.
The Azafran in their first album blend oriental sounds with western harmonies, traditional rhythms with rhythmic expressions of jazz, creating a sound based on ancient musical idioms with modern features.
